It wasn’t long ago when we were here writing about the release of our brand new exhaust system for the latest FL5 Type R.

That system has quickly earned bragging rights as one of if not the best sounding system on the market. But, DE5 owners shouted! “What about us? We want a sick sounding exhaust system too!”

So, we went to work tweaking and tuning our FL5 system to deliver the same proven power gains and sweet sound, but with some subtle modifications specific to the Type S to make it stand out.

Let’s get the basics right out of the way. Our DE5 exhaust shares the same design and construction as the FL5 system. This means large 80MM (3 ⅛”) piping all the way from the frontpipe through the rear muffler. This makes it one of the largest diameter exhaust systems on the market. Speaking of, it comes with an included frontpipe so your exhaust doesn’t have to neck down to fit with the restrictive stock one. And, this system will bolt up to any Downpipe that retains the OE factory Acura 3-bolt flange like our 27WON downpipe or other high-flow aftermarket units out there.

Factory exhaust? Ok for stock power levels, although pretty quiet. Other aftermarket systems use slightly larger piping which is an improvement over stock. They’re often lacking proper resonance control and still don’t match the sizing of our system. So, why settle for something less than ideal? Just check out the power gains this base system delivered when bolted onto our Type R.

Let’s talk fitment….other systems mainly use slip joints at each connection? Why? They are cheaper to manufacture and they can hide poor quality control. With us it’s different. We use thick 3-bolt flanges that bolt up right the first time. All the hardware is included so no trips to the hardware store mid install. This system can be installed right at home just using simple floor jacks, but if you have access to a lift, it makes this job even easier.

Another major bonus to of our system is we retain the use of the factory Acura exhaust valve so you get to keep your driving modes working properly. Want more sound? Simply pop the car into Sport+ mode. Want to tone it down? Click Comfort and you are set to cruise all day long.

So, what’s changed?

We focused on changes to aesthetics. We felt our exhaust needed to suit the Acura Type S which meant we switched up the exhaust tip selection. You’ll get three large equal sized stainless steel tips to perfectly fill in the rear diffuser opening. We’ve also made these tips sit flush with the rear valance so you get a tucked in look without any poke. That was inspired by feedback we received from our DE5 test customers.

The DE5 exhausts all come fully resonated (FL5 has an option to eliminate a resonator). This maintains a more sophisticated sound matching the personality of the Type S. You’ll have the option at launch to purchase this system as a Catback with an included frontpipe and early next year, this system will be available to purchase with our Downpipe bundle i.e a full turboback system.
